Emerging from the underground art scene of downtown Los Angeles comes the    dynamic Rock N' Roll Jazz songstress, Commander Dazzle. Incorporating the fluid vocals of Jazz standards into multimedia rock-electronica fusion, Commander Dazzle has created a sexy, bantering stage show guaranteed to inspire a crowd! Originally from a talented musical lineage, Dazzle moved to the Arts District of downtown L.A. in search of her destiny. Having spent 8 years traveling in the Renaissance re-enactment circuit as a gypsy fire dancer/ faery sorceress, she brings a fantastical creative spark to the stage. 

 

Dazzle has studied the obscure art of “Duende,” the Romani word for channeling the spirit of the dance. Duende, being the essence of Spanish Flamenco, is a special discipline studied to empower performance with passion and intensity by channeling the movement of fire. 

 

Dazzle relates Duende to all aspects of her performance art, including vocal work, which is generally improvisational. In Los Angeles, she has made a name for herself as a producer and solo artist in the neo-radical Burning Man art movement sweeping the national underground. She spent a period of time headlining at the infamous Bedlam Warehouse, downtown L.A.’s modern answer to New York’s punk era Max’s Kansas City. This was the birthplace of the Dazzle Jazz Cabaret, keeping with the club’s 1920’s jazz speakeasy theme.

 

Her shows merge the sensual elements of vocal and dance performance. With rotating themes and mixed media for the creation of each spectacle, she is joined by dancers, video projectionists, and deejays to create an immersive feast of the senses to electro-space-age jazz. She is often just a shadow amid the lights of projections and fog while a story is unfolded before the audience. The themes of the show weave a heroic tale around Commander Dazzle, who is ultimately a character destined to rise from the shadows and become a super hero. She starts out as a mercenary spy, battling with her dark and light sides, and the episodes unfold from there, detailing how she gets her super powers. Each time the Dazzle Jazz Cabaret passes through town, expect an unexpected adventure; the continuing saga of our hero!!!

 

And so it was written in the ancient prophesies that one day great hero would rise from dark places to pave the way to revelry for all mankind!
